For the third consecutive year, Magnolia Garden Center has assembled a showcase of creative garden design featuring the work of outdoor artists from Bellingham to Ashland, Ore. The "Artist in the Garden," which offers a variety of functional and decorative works, runs now through Labor Day, Sept. 5.
According to the folks at Magnolia Garden Center, this annual event is inspired by the cultural boom of sorts going on in the garden art world, with homeowners and gardeners alike increasingly making demands for unique artwork spurred by dozens of home and garden "makeover" shows on television. On such shows, decorative accents, artwork and artistic structures are touted to be just as big a part of outdoor living spaces as are plants and patios.
"Artwork is now just as important an element for landscapes and gardens as water features have become in the last decade," said Chuck Flaherty, co-owner of the Magnolia Garden Center. "Offering original garden art at our garden center is one way that we can help our customers find those one-of-a-kind pieces that personalize their gardens 'as seen on TV," he added.
The garden center will feature artwork to express a wide variety of style in many types of media. Fans of Suzi Coelho's "Outer Spaces" will find decorative and functional items of salvaged materials, while viewers attracted to television programs such as "Landscapers Challenge" and "Ground Breakers" will find more substantial works created in metals, cast concrete and stone.
The Magnolia Garden Center, 3213 W. Smith St., is open Monday through Friday from 9:30 a.m. to 6 p.m., Saturday 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. and Sunday 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.
