The Magnolia Farmers Market has overcome its financial troubles and is ready to start this summer with a new location and new vendors.
The market will open on Saturday, June 18, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. along 33rd Avenue West, between West McGraw and West Smith Street. It will be open every Saturday through Oct. 8.
The new location will move the market out of the Catharine Blaine school parking lot and put it right in the heart of the Magnolia Village.
The Neighborhood Farmers Market Alliance (NFMA) will run the market. Chris Curtis, director of the NFMA, said that she expects the market to open with about 20 vendors. That is down from last year’s total of 28, but she said that is the result of reconfiguring the market for its new location along 33rd Avenue.
“We are focusing on the farmers,” Curtis said. “All the great farmers that have been there from the beginning will be back.”
Curtis said the market would also have some new vendors, including Jacobs Creamery, a dairy operation from Chehalis, WA. The creamery is known for producing gourmet cheese, yogurts and other dairy products. The Jacobs Creamery will be exclusive to the Magnolia Market. Another newcomer this year is La Panzanella Bakery, which will sell artisan breads. It will share a booth with Magnolia’s own Mondello Italian, which will be selling pasta.
On June 25th, the Klickitat Canyon Winery will join the Magnolia Market, offering customers it’s own special wines.
The market is looking for donations and volunteers. Anyone interested should visit magmarketvolunteer@gmail.com.
