This Halloween the festivities will start early.
In Magnolia, the Magnolia Chamber of Commerce is sponsoring its own trick-or-treating extravaganza beginning at 4 p.m., Friday, Oct. 29 with all participating retailers throughout Magnolia Village at West McGraw Street. Storeowners typically dress in ghoulish costumes and hand out sweet treats to all the costumed tots who dare cross their thresholds. It will certainly be a candy-lover's bonanza as well as a photographer's dream.
Then at 1 p.m., Sunday, Oct. 31, the Queen Anne Farmers Market will host a special market event at Queen Anne Avenue North and West Crockett Street that will include a pumpkin pie contest, live music and a costume parade.
Then the Greater Queen Anne Merchant's Association will kick off its candy fest from 3 to 6 p.m. where costumed kids can trick-or-treat in front of all participating storefronts along Queen Anne Avenue North and businesses along the district's cross streets.
And there will certainly be some haunted houses to check out in between.
At 2139 Sixth Ave. W., in Queen Anne, Danielle White's haunted estate will be ready and waiting for unsuspecting treat hunters. She has ghouls and mad scientists and spiders - even a finger-eating baby. She also has an inflatable black cat, thanks to the Ron and Don show on KIRO FM 97.3. She told the radio station that someone had stolen her inflatable cat and the station bought her two new ones, valued at about $100. On a sign she has hung out next to the cat, she has written, "Thank you Ron and Don."
White decorates for every holiday, too.
"It makes the house more homey," she said.
Other wildly decorated homes can be found at 2553 Crestmont Place W.; along the 2500 block of 10th Avenue West, the 2400 block of Second Avenue West and 3707 29th Ave., where a cornucopia of pumpkins can be seen.
