At the evening event, the 2007 Human Rights Awards were presented to local human rights leaders Casa Latina, Paulina Lopez and Save Darfur Washington State. Other nominees included Dr. Robert Houston, Minh Duc Nguyen, Lisa Daugaard, Joe Martin and Real Change Newspaper.
Youth for Human Rights promotes the Universal Declaration of Human Rights as part of its campaign to educate children on their basic rights and the importance of the Universal Declaration. Pledges were signed at the event and materials on the Universal Declaration, Bill of Rights, and so forth were made available by Youth for Human Rights, the ACLU and other organizations.
Human Rights Day 2007 is produced by the Seattle Office for Civil Rights and Seattle Human Rights Commission, with support from Seattle University Law School, Seattle Human Services Department, Q Law, Seattle Department of Neighborhoods, Seattle Fire Department, Seattle Commission for Sexual Minorities, United Nations Association-Seattle, King County Civil Rights Commission and American Civil Liberties Union of WA. Co-sponsors include Pride Foundation, Greater Seattle Business Association, Northwest Immigrant Rights Project, Youth for Human Rights, First Place Schools, Minority Executive Directors Coalition, WA State Bar Association and Seattle Gay News.
