BMW has launched a social-media funding effort to help local parks across the country, and Discovery Park is one of the 12 beneficiaries.
A new BMW X1 traversed the country starting in Seattle and ended in New York City on Sept. 10. At each of the 12 predetermined stops, including Discovery Park, drivers took an Instagram photo and posted it to the www.RestoretheOutdoors.com Facebook page. For every “Like” the photo receives on Facebook, BMW will donate one dollar back to that location, up to $10,000 each.
The other parks include Forest Park in Portland, Ore.; Redwood National Forest in San Francisco; Topanga State Park in Los Angeles; Red Rock Canyon in Las Vegas;0 Indiana Dunes in Chicago; White Rock Lake State Park in Dallas; Sam Houston National Forest in Houston; Oleta River State Park in Miami, Sweetwater Creek State Park in Atlanta; River Bend Park in Washington, D.C.; and Tompkins Square Park in New York City.
As of press time, Discovery Park had raised $8,398 of its $10,000 total.
