Library to celebrate reopening

The newly renovated University Library, 5009 Roosevelt Way N.E.., will reopen to the public with a community celebration on Oct. 13, starting at noon.

Events include a children's craft project and performances by the Cajun band La Bande Pastiche.

Also scheduled are Jet City Improv, from 1 to 2 p.m.; author and University of Washington professor David Mabberley, who will discuss "The Story of the Apple" from 2 to 3 p.m.; and author Alice Shorett, who will talk about "Soul of the City: The Pike Place Public Market" from 3 to 4 p.m.

Lulu the Library book fairy will promote the opening with several appearances throughout the neighborhood, including the University District Farmers Market on Saturday, Oct. 6, from 11 a.m. to noon; the Cooperative Children's Center, 4759 15th Ave. N.E., from 10 to 10:15 a.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 10; and the Able Child Children's Center, 5031 University Way N.E., from 10:30 to 10:45 a.m. that same day.
