A leaded glass door window at the Joe Bar café was smashed during an Aug. 21 break-in.
A prowler entered the establishment early in the morning through a transom window. He smashed through the leaded glass door window to make his escape from the historic Loveless Building at Broadway East and East Roy Street.
The shop's pastry deliveryman appeared on the scene while the perpetrator was inside. The doors of the shop lock inside and out, and there is no easy way to exit the space after hours without a key.
"The minute he made eye contact [with the deliveryman] he grabbed a chair and broke out the door window to get away," said Wylie Bush, Joe Bar owner. Bush added that nothing was taken.
"There wasn't anything to take," Bush said. "There wasn't any cash and I don't think he was going to steal the espresso machine."
Police were called but the perpetrator fled the scene. A suspect was arrested later in the afternoon by police responding to a different matter.
The door held a stained glass figure in its center which was completely smashed. The Loveless Building, a Cotswold Cottage-style Seattle landmark, has several different stained glass designs in its doors. There is no estimate of the cost to replace the art window.
