Congratulations to the talented musicians from Lake Washington High School for their award winning performances at the North Lake League Solo and Ensemble contest, held Feb. 3 at Juanita High School.
Earning a superior rating and making state were Matt Carstens, Kaes Kniestedt, Will McKenney, Eric Peel and Cameron Eckhardt for an original percussion piece composed by LW's own Matt Carstens.
This group will represent LW at the state competition at Central Washington University later this spring. Kang trombonist, Ray Horton, earned a superior rating and was named first alternate to state, as was A.J. Swan for his outstanding string bass performance.
Earning first alternate to state, and a likely invitation to CWU, was the Lake Washington Chamber Orchestra, consisting of Jordan Barrera, Elise Cho, Kristy Forgrave, Mark Hammersberg, Darryl Harshbarger, Elise Harshbarger, Jeanie Hwangpo, Stephanie Johnson, Michael Kruse, Janis Lee, Jocelyn Perry, Taylor Standish, Mollie Steele, Adrian Swan, Emily Witte and Adelaide Wright.
This is the only orchestra to have placed in the top two at the Northlake Solo and Ensemble Contest each of the last three years and to haven taken first place last year. Bill Ma won second alternate in solo piano.
Also earning superior ratings: Jessica Lees, Amanda Christenson, Emma Strick, Emily Darveau, Kristy Forgrave, Daryl Harshbarger, Jeanie Hwangpo, Michael Kruse, Sarah Maddux, Chris Post, Andrew Primbs and Bonnie Tierney.
