Kirkland throws a year-long party as city turns 100

KICK-OFF AT KPC


February 2, 5:30 - 7:30 p.m.
Join the City of Kirkland in its Centennial kick-off gala celebration honoring those who have made a difference in Kirkland. Past mayors and other dignitaries are scheduled to attend. "Peter Kirk" will make a guest appearance. Original watercolor artwork featured in the Kirkland 2005 Centennial calendar by local artist Katherine Wright will be on display. Centennial memorabilia will be available for sale and refreshments will be served.

ART HISTORY AT KAC

February 10 - March 5, 620 Market Street:
Art History curated by Jason Huff, Kirkland Arts Center Artistic Director and Merrily Dicks, KAC historian and board member, is presented in partnership with Kirkland, the Kirkland Heritage Society and the Kirkland Centennial Committee.

It celebrates Kirkland's past as interpreted by many of the best-known artists living and working in Kirkland today. The display kicks-off during the first Art Gallery Walk on February 10 and will run through March 5 at the Kirkland Arts Center.

The exhibit features new works from 14 local artists, inspired by historical pictures, signs and memorabilia from the Heritage Society archives, and rare pieces from Kirkland's past. The art will be displayed alongside the artifact that inspired it and will be paired with both the artists' statements and a historical description from the Heritage Society.

Participating artists include Geri Bedford, Eduardo Calderon, Merrily Dicks, Susan Glass, Marijune Hagard, Jamie Johnson, Michele Jurist, Fred Monro, Don Myhre, Donna Porter, Donna Schill, Renata Simpson, Mattthew Skenandore and Eva Sköld Westerlind.

LITTLE LEAGUE PARADE

March 19, 10 a.m.
Kirkland American players on parade will be wearing historical uniforms and celebrating Kirkland's lively baseball history.


VOLKSWALK
April 3, Start anytime between 8 a.m. and noon:
The American Volkssport Association (AVA) and Kirkland will host a 5k and 10k Volkswalk through historical areas of Kirkland to honor Kirkland's Centennial. The Volkswalk is open to the public at no charge; people of all ages are encouraged to join in. AVA members pay $3 for AVA credit.

Participants are requested to finish by 3 p.m. Start and finish line at Kirkland's Marina Park Pavilion. The route will take walkers past historical sites in Kirkland. Information: Stan or Beth Wolf with the local Interlaken Trailblazers at 827-7018.


100 WEDDINGS IN KIRKLAND

April 30:
Couples engaged or wishing to renew their vows are invited to take part in the 100 Weddings in Kirkland and be a part of Kirkland history. Weddings will take place at historical Heritage Hall and renewal ceremonies will take place at Marina Park Pavilion. Officiants include Judge Albert M. Raines of the Kirkland Municipal Court, Judge Mariane Spearman and retired Judge Carolyn Hayek.

The deadline for registration is March 25. Cost is $100 per couple. Specific wedding times to be determined upon registration.
