Kirkland has two more centenarians!

Ruth Hamby

Ruth Hamby was born Oct. 20, 1906 in Earlington, Ky.

Son Jack and family send birthday wishes to their "Southern belle."

Marion Steiner

Marion Steiner, nee Murphy, was born Sept. 21, 1906 in Providence, Rhode Island, one of five children. She and husband George had three daughters: Georgia, Fritzie and Karen. In 1942 the family moved to Seattle where George worked for Nordstrom.

Two years later, George and Marion opened their first Merry-Go-Round Children's Store on 5th and University in Seattle. They subsequently opened one in Everett, Federal Way, Northgate and Bellevue. Marion created a line of decorated soaps and ran her soap business out of the lower level of the Merry-Go-Round store.

Boating became a part of their lives; they spent many summers cruising the Canadian San Juan Islands. During one trip up the inland passage to Alaska, Marion caught a record 54-pound salmon and chipped ice off an iceberg for the martini hour.

Marion is blessed with 15 grandchildren, a whopping 34 great grandchildren and one great-great grandchild.

Marion has been living at Aegis of Kirkland since 2001.

The Courier sends its congratulations and best wishes to Ruth and Marion.
