Kathryn "Katie" Doyle was born on a farm in Jamestown, North Dakota, fifth of six children. Her four older brothers and younger sister called her "Sis." As she was growing up, she learned her wonderful sewing skills, which she later used extensively in making her daughters many beautiful clothes, and other decorations for her house.
After high school and business college, she came out to Seattle for her brother’s wedding and decided to stay. Living in a small apartment with four other girls her age, she found a bookkeeping job at Doyle Plumbing Supply, where she met her future husband, Wilfred Doyle. They were married in 1947. They raised five children: Michelle, Rory, Charmain, Renee and Michael. As Wilfred's health declined she rejoined the workforce in the Payroll /Accounting Dept of Northwest Dairymen's Assn (Dairygold) until she retired in 1990 after 20 years.
She loved to dance, she loved to play her piano "by ear," she had a green thumb and could grow anything, but she found her passion in her later years taking sculpting classes. She made many beautiful pieces of art, including a wonderful likeness of J.P. Patches, which she donated to The History House in Fremont.
She passed away peacefully at home February 16, 2013, after a long struggle with COPD. She is survived by her sister Gladys "Babe" Caulfield, five children, five grandchildren, four great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins who all miss her smile and sense of humor terribly. She requested no service, and suggested any memorials be a donation to the charity of your choice.
