After 15 months at the helm of The Queen Anne and Magnolia News, Jeff Bond is leaving to take a job with Paradigm Publishing. He will be an editor for Alaska Airlines magazine.
“Jeff’s done a great job for us and we’re sorry to see him go,” said publisher Mike Dillon. “But he’s got an opportunity to return to the magazine publishing world and he couldn’t say no. We wish him well.”
Dillon said he would serve as editor of the Queen Anne & Magnolia News in the near term. He welcomes your news tips, comments and feedback at mdillon@nwlink.com
Bond came to The News by way of Seattle area magazines and newspapers where he has been writing and editing for more than 20 years. In his tenure with The News he focused on local news, trying to give the paper’s readers the in-depth information they couldn’t get anywhere else.
“I loved working here and it was a privilege to cover the communities of Magnolia and Queen Anne,” Bond said. “However, this was an opportunity I could not pass up.”
Bond said he enjoyed finding the unique and interesting people in the community that helped tell the story of the Magnolia and Queen Anne neighborhoods. Bond also concentrated on trying to bring up-to-date information to the newspaper’s website.
Some of the stories that Bond followed closely included the Army Reserve leaving Fort Lawton; the passing of Art Van der Wel, Phil Irwin, Jan Paolini and James Fielder; the Queen Anne boys of summer; the ongoing developments in Smith Cove, the viaduct demolition, Metropolitan Market leaving Upper Queen Anne, the Uptown Theater’s rebirth, rocky relations at the Queen Anne Farmers Market and the constant changes to the business sectors of Queen Anne and Magnolia.
A former resident of Magnolia, Bond said he is sad that he will no longer be covering this great part of town. But he looks forward to the new challenges that await him in his future position.
