In memoriam

Immediately after the Aug. 13 death of longtime KOMO TV news anchor Kathi Goertzen, 54, flowers started appearing at KOMO headquarters at Fisher Plaza. Goertzen, a resident of Magnolia, had battled benign, but recurring brain tumors for 14 years. Her courage during her long illness and her integrity as a newsperson have drawn tributes from people from all walks of life around the Northwest. A memorial service was held at Fisher Pavilion at the Seattle Center on Sunday, Aug. 19 at 1 p.m. Inside seating was reserved for family, co-workers and friends. An audio feed of the service was broadcast to dozens of people gathered on the lawn outside.
More coverage will appear in the Aug. 22 edition of the News.
