Magnolia's Heron Habitat Helpers has been honored nationally and has received a grant from the Kodak American Greenways Awards Program.
HHH was selected for its innovative efforts to restore the habitat of the largest nesting colony of great blue herons in Kiwanis Ravine Park. The all-volunteer organization's mission is to help Seattle learn about, enjoy and protect its Kiwanis great blue herons.
The $500 grant will help fund the installation of interpretive signs in the ravine. In addition to receiving the grant award, Heron Habitat Helpers will be showcased as a national model for its innovative efforts to develop a greenway in the park.
The Kodak American Greenways Awards Grants Review Committee, made up of conservation experts from around the country, selected grant recipients from a pool of 130 qualified applicants.
Any person or organization interested in contributing can send a check to Heron Habitat Helpers at P.O. Box 99815, Seattle, WA 98139-0815.
