Members of the Roosevelt Neighbors Alliance and other volunteers serve lunch at Blessed Sacrament Church, 5050 Eighth Ave. N.E., on Nov. 11 to kick off National Hunger and Homelessness Awareness Week, which takes place the week before Thanksgiving every year. The church serves an average of 461 meals each week in its small kitchen, where Tom Andererl scoops up corn. Behind him, his wife, Adrienne, maneuvers a hot pan.
