Hellen Marie Keller, 91, passed away peacefully at her daughter’s home on the evening of June 22nd. Hellen was the oldest of six siblings born to Harvey and Annie Henry on February 13, 1921 in Cincinnati, Iowa. After graduating from high school, Hellen worked in Lovell, Wyoming where, during WWII she met her husband, Konrad Keller, who preceded her in death. Together, they had three beautiful and devoted daughters, Konra, Kay and Karyn. As a single mom, Hellen took the girls to Spokane, WA where in 1962 she attended Whitworth College earning her BA in 1965 and Masters in 1969. Hellen worked over 25 years in the Social Services for Washington State as an advocate for the elderly. Hellen also pursued her passion for travel by visiting both the North and South Poles (the South being her favorite) and practically all points in between. Her trip to China in 1982 was one of her best trips. But her sojourns in her motor home (her license plate read: Hellen “On” Wheels) followed by family was among her fondest memories. Even as she was approaching her final hours, Hellen was still planning her next Voyage to Alaska. Hellen was also preceded in death by her oldest daughter, Konra, and grandson, Joey. She leaves behind her daughters, Kay (Michael) Morrison, and Karyn Emery, 6 grandchildren, 6 great-grandchildren, 3 siblings (Harvey Jr., New Mexico; Margie, Arizona; and Paul, Montana), and too many friends to count. Her family and friends wish her a Bon Voyage on this, her most elaborate journey yet. In lieu of flowers, remembrances may be made to the Meow Cat Rescue in Kirkland, WA,www.meowcatrescue.org.
