The Fremont Chamber of Commerce will once again bring its Oktoberfest to Canal Street, between Phinney Avenue North and First Avenue Northwest on Friday, Sept. 19, through Sunday, Sept. 21.This year's festival will include a free children's area, with root beer tasting and zucchini car races; the Texas Chainsaw Pumpkin Carving Contest (at 2:30 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday); the Brew HA-HA 5K run and walk (at 8 a.m. Sunday), followed by the 90-minute Brew HA-HA Scramble scavenger hunt (10 a.m. Sunday); and Dog-Day Afternoon for dogs (Sunday only).New this year are a wine garden, a cigar lounge and cabana tents, which can be rented as private beer seating areas.Fremont Oktoberfest organizers also are encouraging women and men to dress up by holding a Miss Buxom Contest on opening day at 7 p.m. Contestants, who should wear traditional German attire with a "Fremont twist," will answer light-hearted questions before the winner is chosen by audience applause.Following the contest, the Ride & Glide BMX Stunt Team will make its debut, performing backflips and other bicycle tricks over a line of beer barrels.And to ring in the beer festivities, Fremont Outdoor Movies will end its season with a showing of Will Ferrell's "Old School" on Saturday, Sept. 13, at dusk at North 35th Street and Phinney Avenue North.
