Girl Scouts from Magnolia and Ballard were on hand Friday, March 4, to welcome home the sailors on the aircraft carrier U.S.S. Abraham Lincoln when it returned to port in Everett.
The girls of Troop 1363 also were there to thank the many sailors who purchased altogether more than 1,200 boxes of Girl Scout cookies while at sea.
Girl Scout Danielle Segrist, whose father is a member of the security team on the aircraft carrier, asked if he would help her sell some 600 boxes of Girl Scout cookies to his fellow sailors, helping his daughter qualify for camp this summer.
So good was the response that the entire 10-girl troop, along with their two co-leaders, will participate in a four day, three night adventure at Camp River Ranch, a Girl Scout owned and operated facility in Carnation.
Danielle's mother, Carol, arranged for the troop to be present at the carrier's homecoming celebration, where they met officers and learned more about the lives of seagoing soldiers. The girls also were given a couple minutes of television fame when a local station covered the event.
The Troop held up a home-made banner and waved a welcoming hand to the sailors as they made their way home, many with brand-new babies in hand.
Troop 1363, led by Kim Keltto and Erin Reetz, sold a total of 2,400 boxes of Girl Scout cookies among 10 girls. The troop consists of girls in grades third through sixth.
