Gerald R. McGill of Seattle, WA died January 18, 2012; he was 81.
Gerry was born in Seattle on June 19, 1930 to Roy and Marcella McGill; the first of their two children.
Gerry attended St. Martin’s High School in Olympia, WA. Following high school, he turned down a job with the Railway Express Company to continue his education at Seattle University. There he met his future wife, Virginia “Ginger” Dorn of Yakima, WA. After marrying in 1950 Gerry and Ginger made their home in the Magnolia neighborhood of Seattle. There, for the next 40 years they raised their five children and Gerry built his reputation as one of the top custom home builders in the Seattle area.
After his “retirement”, Gerry and Ginger split their time between Seattle and their 160 acre “Last Gasp Ranch” in Eastern Washington, near Tonasket. At home in the country, Gerry spent his time raising horses, hunting, hiking, chopping firewood, riding snowmobiles, and helping neighbors. Their door was always open and there was always a Coke or cold beer for neighbors who stopped to visit.
After Ginger’s illness and death in 1999 Gerry returned to live near family and old friends in Seattle. In his remaining years he took several cruises to Mexico and Alaska and could regularly be seen, cigar in hand, walking the waterfront or running errands in the Magnolia Village.
Gerry is survived by his sister, Gloria Campanella; four sons, Timothy, Thomas, Terrence and Theodore; a daughter, Susan; ten grandchildren and three great grandchildren.
Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10:30 AM on Monday, March 5th at Our Lady of Fatima Catholic Church, 3307 West Dravus Street, Seattle, WA 98199. A reception will follow.
