Gerald F. Newton, Sept. 12, 1919 - March 17, 2012

A memorial service will be held for Gerald F. Newton on Tuesday, June 19, at o1 P.M. at Bethany Presbyterian Church in the fellowship hall, 1818 Queen Anne Avenue North.   Jerry and his wife Clara lived on Queen Anne Hill for 50 years, where they raised their two daughters Joann and Jane.  Jerry began serving as principal at West Queen Elementary School in 1956, eventually moving to Magnolia and then Decator Elementary Schools. He was passionate about education.

Jerry loved God with all his heart and was active in church, where he played soprano sax in the church orchestra, sang in the choir, and taught Sunday school.  He also sang in the “Light and Life Hour” radio choir.  He lived his faith and shared it with others whenever he could.

He deeply loved his family, teaching his daughters to sing harmony as he played piano, bait hooks with worms, and analyze theology, politics, and math problems at the dinner table.  He talked with people all over the world on his ham radio (call letters K7CHT) and at age 68 climbed to base camp on Mt. Everest.  After retirement from the Seattle School District, he volunteered at Group Health Hospital for many years.  He is dearly remembered by family, friends, teachers and students.

In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Gideon Bible Society.
