Fremont Bridge opens all lanes

The Fremont Bridge is now open to all traffic.

The historic bridge had been closed off and on over the last year for the replacement of both bridge approaches, which required traffic restrictions in each direction.

Seattle Department of Transportation contractors are continuing to upgrade the bridge's internal mechanical and electrical systems, which will require occasional closures at night and during the weekends through summer 2008. It will open to marine traffic, though bridge operators may open only one leaf for passage.

The Burke-Gilman Trail section under the bridge's north end, which is now rerouted to North 34th Street, will open in July, with occasional delays for construction through spring 2008.

The Ship Canal Trail under the bridge's south end will open this summer.[[In-content Ad]]
