Free July 29 concert at Swedish Cultural Center

The Greenwood Concert Band will present a free concert on Sunday, July 29, 2 p.m. at the Swedish Cultural Center, 1920 Dexter Av. N.

The program features marches, light classics, and show tunes aimed to appeal to all ages. Among the notable numbers on the bill: clarinet solos, special music to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the 1962 Seattle World’s Fair and an unusual Sousa march illustrating Teddy Roosevelt’s trip to Africa with special musical effects. The concert also includes two rarely performed pieces by the Seattle Symphony's conductor of 1909-1911, Henry Kimball Hadley, whose compositions are still recorded today.
The Greenwood Concert Band is conducted by William Blayney and is now in its 16th season. It is comprised of professional and experienced amateur musicians and presents several free concerts for the public each year.
