Fort lawton signs ripped off

The Sustainable Neighborhoods Coalition, which objects to the pace of plans to build housing for the homeless and market-rate housing on Fort Lawton property, put up signs in Magnolia to garner support.
They read "Ft. Lawton Re-Use/Do It Right!" - and someone stole them sometime overnight Aug. 18 from 15 yards along 36th Avenue West between West Emerson and West Lawton streets, said coalition member Christine Atkins.
"The killer was, it was from private yards," she said.
Political signs were also stolen from the median on nearby West Government Way around the same time, Atkins said. "But that's public property." The coalition signs of have since been replaced, but the loss of the first ones was especially irritating because the Seattle City Council has been holding public hearings over the issue, she said.
Atkins declined to speculate about who was responsible. "You can throw in conspiracy theory, but I don't want to point fingers," she said. The neighborhood is going to stay vigilant to prevent any more of the signs from being taken, said Atkins, who hoped they'd stay up until the city council votes on the re-use plan.
That didn't happen. The replacement signs were stolen Wednesday morning, Aug. 27, Atkins said via e-mail. "Clearly we must be ruffling someone's feathers on this topic," she added.
