Falcons Release 2012 women's soccer schedule

Nine home games at Interbay Stadium highlight the 18-game schedule for the Seattle Pacific women’s soccer team that begins pursuit of its 10th consecutive playoff appearance on the road.

SPU starts the season at Notre Dame de Namur on Aug. 30 and remains in Belmont, Calif. for a neutral-site contest against UC San Marcos on Sept. 1.

The Falcons first home game is Sept. 6 against Azusa Pacific followed by a Sept. 8 match Hawaii Pacific. Those two games, both slated for 7 p.m. kick-offs at Interbay Stadium, close out the non-conference portion of the schedule.

The SPU women captured the last three Great Northwest Athletic Conference championships. They begin their title defense on the road, Sept. 13 against last season’s league runner-up Montana State Billings.

The first GNAC home game is Sept. 19 against Northwest rival Western Washington.

“I like our schedule. We have two non-conference games on the road, two non-conference games at home and then we split in the conference,” said Chuck Sekyra in a prepared statement, who begins his 10th season as head coach at SPU.

“We could have 20 games with the conference tournament, which will be nice to get back to that many games. It’s a well-balanced schedule and I just look forward to going after every team on it.”

Last season, SPU won the league title with a 13-1 record. The Falcons registered a 17-3 overall mark and participated in the postseason for the ninth straight season.

Six starters return from that team, including All-American forward Megan Lindsay (Spokane, Wash./Gonzaga Prep) and 2011 GNAC Freshman of the Year Riley Dopps (Port Orchard, Wash./South Kitsap).

Tickets for SPU soccer games can be purchased at Interbay Stadium (3027 17th Ave. W., Seattle 98119) on game day. Ticket windows open one hour prior to kickoff. All seats are general admission, priced at $6 for adults and $3 for students and senior citizens. SPU students and staff are admitted free with i.d.

Discounted group rates can be arranged by calling in advance to the SPU Athletics Ticket Office at:  206-281-2085.
