Espresso generosity

Dawn Bradley, who owns the Magnolia Coffee Co. espresso stand in the 76 gas station in Magnolia Village, has been doing well since she and partner Daniel Bradley bought the business last July.In fact, business has tripled since then, and now the Bradleys want to do good with a "Caring for Kids Through Coffee" day on Friday, April 16. That's when the entire day's proceeds will be donated to Children's Hospital, she said. "I just figure they need money all the time," Bradley said.Bradley went to a Children's Hospital in Vancouver, B.C., when she was a kid. Now, the business owner has two children of her own and wanted to make Children's Hospital a beneficiary of her charitable inclinations."It's because I love children," Bradley explained. "We're adults and I feel it's our responsibility to help them.""I think it's great we're helping out Children's Hospital," chimed in Leslie Stannard, a barista who works at the stand.Bradley said she hopes to raise around $5,000 for the cause on Friday, and she notes customers can help in a couple of ways besides buying lattes and the like.Customers can pay more than the regular price for their caffeinated beverages, and they can also cut a check that will go directly to Children's, Bradley said. The customer who makes the biggest donation by check to the hospital will be rewarded with a month of free coffee drinks at the espresso stand, along with a free round of golf donated by the Interbay Golf Course for up to four people, Bradley said with a smile.- Russ Zabel[[In-content Ad]]
