Hazel Wolf Environmental Film Network will hold its ninth annual environmental film festival March 29 through April 1, with climate change and environmental justice as the primary themes.
The festival includes 50 films and shorts, mostly documentaries, as well as panel discussions. A complete schedule is available at www.hazelfilm.org.
Leading off the screenings March 29 will be "Edge of Eden: Living with Grizzlies." The film will be shown at Woodland Park Zoo. Then, March 30, the scene shifts to the University of Washington's Kane Hall for "The Great Warming." Among the speakers that day is the UK's Peter Bunyard, author of "Extreme Weather" and currently lecturing at Columbia on the Amazon and climate. The festival stays at UW for the rest of that weekend.
The festival offers several workshops, including one March 31 by Queen Anne's own John de Graaf, award-winning filmmaker ("Affluenza," "Buyer Be Fair") and festival founder. Local filmmaker Sandy Cioffi will discuss her work in progress, "Sweet Crude," about oil and desperation in the Niger Delta.
Festival tickets are available through Brown Paper Tickets. Organizers advise purchasing tickets early, as seats are limited.
