EMP|SFM soon to remain open seven days a week

Attendance at Experience Music Project|Science Fiction Museum and Hall of Fame (EMP|SFM) is up 13 percent from the beginning of the year, and the museum has welcomed 5,836 new members to the museum in the past 12 months, according to a press release from public-relations manager Maggie Skinner.

As a result, effective Sept. 4, the Paul Allen-owned entertainment complex will extend its hours and be open seven days a week from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.

(Previously, the museum had been closed on Tuesdays following Labor Day.)

According to Josi Callan, CEO of EMP|SFM, "We can attribute these tremendous numbers to a growing membership base - attracted by our new emphasis on family programming, beginning our community access All Access Nights at EMP|SFM and offering our visitors a lower ticket price."

All Access Nights, launched in January and sponsored by the Boeing Company, entail free admission the first Thursday evening of every month, from 5 to 8 p.m.

In March, EMP|SFM's ticket price was lowered, bringing the admission cost into line with other area museums and attractions. Tickets are now $15 for adults and $12 for seniors, youth and students and military personnel with ID. Children under 5 are free.

This fall, the museum will open two new exhibitions. "American Sabor: Latinos in U.S. Popular Music" is the first major museum exhibition to explore the significant contributions of Latino artists in the American soundscape. The bilingual exhibition will open Oct. 13 and run through Sept. 7, 2008.

"Innersphere: Sculptural Works by Rik Allen," to open Nov. 17 and run through April 25, 2008, will feature glass and metal sculpture inspired by this Washington artist's lifelong fascination with technology and science fiction.[[In-content Ad]]
