The EMP Museum will celebrate the first 50 years of the Seattle Center and the future of the Northwest music scene with The Next 50 Plays The First 50, a free outdoor concert on July 7 spotlighting local up-and-coming artists and the region’s music history.
The show will run 2 to 8 p.m. at the Mural Amphitheatre on the Seattle Center grounds.
Eight bands will play their original material, as well as covers of songs by legendary local acts that performed live at the Seattle Center between 1962 and 2012, including Nirvana, Jimi Hendrix, Sir Mix A Lot, Modest Mouse, Presidents of the United States of America, Blue Scholars, Death Cab for Cutie, Built to Spill, The Wailers, and more.
The show will feature performances by Vendetta Red, Grand Hallway, Fly Moon Royalty, Seacasts, Candysound, Special Explosion, Brothers From Another and Dungeon ScienceDate
Created in collaboration with Seattle Center’s The Next Fifty: the 50th anniversary of the 1962 World’s Fair, and programmed by EMP Museum’s Youth Advisory Board, The Next 50 Plays The First 50 features past participants of Sound Off!, EMP’s annual battle of the bands for musicians 21 and under.
