Ellen Wilson, who resided on Queen Anne Hill for 54 of her 95 years, passed away peacefully on March 11 at RiverWest assisted living in Wenatchee.
She was born April 28, 1911, in Shine, Wash., to Hilma and Martin Parkko and was raised in a small Finnish community there.
Living in Queen Anne later on, she first worked in a doctor's home in 1926-27. She met Harvold (Bill) Wilson at Parker's Dance Hall, where they both loved to dance. They were married in January 1942.
A member of the Eastern Star, Mrs. Wilson was especially proud of the 12 years she waitressed at Ben Paris restaurant in Seattle. Her favorite activities were touring with the Horseless Carriage Club of Seattle, bowling, clam digging, gardening and playing pinochle.
Mrs. Wilson's longest residence in Queen Anne was on Prospect Street, overlooking Seattle Center. A remarkable homemaker and an accomplished cook, she cherished her contacts with her six grandchildren and in particular family camping trips. She traveled to all parts of Europe and Asia, lived a rich and rewarding life and said she had done everything she wanted to do.
Preceded in death in 1995 by her husband of more than half a century, she is survived by son Marvin Wilson and wife Penny; daughter Sharron and husband Dennis Johnson, of Wenatchee; and six grandchildren: Eric Wilson, of Portland, Ore.; Stephanie and husband Cevan Schmitt, of Bellingham; Tonja Wilson, of San Francisco, Calif.; Jim Wilson, of Bellingham; Suzanne Johnson, of Wenatchee; and Scott Johnson and wife Josie, of Seattle. In addition, she had four great-grandchildren: Porter and Clare Schmitt, of Bellingham, and Lane and Lauren Johnson, of Wenatchee.
A celebration of Ellen Wilson's life was held at Riverton Crest Cemetery, Tukwila, in a graveside service last Friday, March 16. Memorial donations in her name can be made to the American Heart Association.
