This newspaper has devoted space in the past to the ongoing speaker’s series at Queen Anne United Methodist Church (www.qaumc.org) and will continue to do so. We find the series one of the most interesting happenings in the city.
Big names have slipped in and out of the neighborhood to appear in the 120-seat venue at 1606 Fifth Ave. W. Among them: Kathleen Norris (“Cloister Walk”), Ann Lamott (“Help, Thanks, Wow”), Tavis Smiley and Cornel West (“The Rich and the Rest of Us”), Alexander McCall Smith (“The No. 1 Ladies Detective Agency”) and John Dominic Crossan (“Jesus: A Revolutionary Biography”).
Respect for discourse and dialogue is the order of the day. Those touring authors and experts who want to spend time in an intimate setting have a place to land on Queen Anne.
We salute pastor Katie Ladd for creating the series and keeping it vital. “We’re trying to do something that’s more than a speaker’s series in a world so virtual, but to have people face-to-face,” Ladd told us last year.
The series is in the midst of its “Food, Faith and Planet” theme. The discussion of big ideas in a small setting — without drumroll and fanfare — is a rarity these days.[[In-content Ad]]
