The Magnolia Chorale will begin rehearsals for its 20th annual holiday concert Sunday, Sept. 13, under the direction of Jean-Marie Kent. Kent is a doctoral candidate in choral conducting at the University of Washington and at the concerts will be joined by two of her sisters for parts of the Benjamin Britten "Ceremony of Carols."
The concert will include favorites from sacred to secular, from Britten's "...Carols" to Elvis Presley's "Blue Christmas" and as well as the Chorale's own set of traditional and "traditional-with-a-twist" carols.
The Chorale is seeking new singers and returning "alumni." Tryouts are scheduled for Sunday at 5:30 p.m., with introduction to the concert music for the entire Chorale starting at 6:30 p.m., both at the Magnolia United Church of Christ, 3555 W. McGraw St. Regular Sunday rehearsals begin at 7 p.m., also at the UCC.
Kent is beginning her second year at the Chorale. Student musicians from the UW also have been a resource at the Chorale. Kent can be contacted at jmkmusic@u.washington.edu.
The concerts will be Saturday, Dec. 5, at UCC, and Sunday, Dec. 6, at the Episcopal Church of the Ascension, also in Magnolia.
