Disrespect is disappointing

Was someone trying to be funny in the last paragraph [of the Oct. 17 editorial, "Level heads don't prevail in CD"] where it says, "so cooperate with the cops when confronted, for you can always sue the pants off the pigs later if they choose to abuse the power we've given them."

The author is telling people to cooperate with the police and then disrespectfully calls them pigs. "Sue the pants off them." Is this supposed to be funny?

I missed the point.

The police need our respect and cooperation. Please keep the cheap, juvenile name calling out of your editorials.

I have always thought this is a neighborhood newspaper, and believe, also, that one of its roles is to help build community among a wide diversity of citizenry.

For some people it has been necessary to sue the police department.

Is it the goal of your writing to advise readers to be ready to litigate?

I enjoy the Beacon Hill News & South District Journal, but the disrespect in that paragraph seems unnecessary and incendiary.

I think you can do better than that last paragraph.
