Construction noise coming at Terminal 61

Construction noise from a project at Terminal 91 is in the works.  Crews began work Aug. 6 and expect to be done by mid-September.  Normal construction hours will be between 7 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Monday through Friday.

The project is part of an Agreed Order (DE 8938) between the Port of Seattle and the Washington Department of Ecology.  The Port will be performing construction activities relating to the cleanup of the area known as the West Central Building 136 of the Terminal 91.  Neighbors might hear normal construction noise (trucks, backhoes, saw cutting,  paving equipment and pressure washing machines).  To minimize the sound from equipment back up alarms, crews will work in a “loop” which will keep equipment moving in a forward direction.  The work involves:

· removal of existing asphalt paving (approximately 16’x64’ area)

· excavation and disposal of contaminated soils (diesel and lube oil-range petroleum hydrocarbon)

· removal and disposal of any underground storage tank(s) or associated pipe if encountered

· backfill excavated area with structural fill; and repave disturbed areas with asphalt concrete pavement.
