Coe Elementary School students will soon be performing Mozart's "The Magic Flute" on stage. Queen Anne kids ages 5 through 12 are taking on opera, thanks to director/producer Mark Power. Power is a classically trained singer and a Coe dad.
The kids have been practicing for several weeks now. Some say that the older kids are changing their i-Pod playlist from Beyonce to Mozart.
Members of the community effort are building and painting sets; parents are ironing and sewing costumes, all going on as the kids rehearse.
The Magic Flute opens on Thursday, March 29, with a preview at 6:30.
Shows are also scheduled for Friday and Saturday at 7 p.m., with the production closing on April 1 after a 4:30 p.m. performance.
The cast is rehearsing every Monday and Saturday nights. They also will be in full dress rehearsals from Monday, March 26 through March 28.
