City, bike group to help salmon

The Restore Our Waters and the Cascade Bicycling Club are teaming up for Restore Our Waters Cascade Spawning Cycle on Sept. 14.

Restore Our Waters is the City of Seattle's commitment to take actions and promote partnerships to protect and improve the area's creeks, lakes, the Duwamish River and Puget Sound.

The initiative is a science-based effort to reduce stormwater runoff that carries pollutants into the area's waters.

As Cascade's only urban Seattle ride, bikers get a chance to pay tribute to the salmon that pass through our local waterways. The ride offers route choices along scenic viewpoints based loosely on salmon migration through the city. The urban shorelines support various stages of the salmon lifecycle, and the local waters provide vital habitat as they migrate to their original spawning stream.
