Caroline Mae Schweitzer, a Magnolia resident since 1957, passed away on July 15 at Swedish Medical Center due to complications from a severe infection, just days after surgery to remove a cancerous tumor from her colon.
She was 73.
Born and raised in Kidder, S.D., she moved with family to Portland, Ore., in 1951. She married Will Schweitzer in 1957 and moved to Seattle.
The marriage ended in divorce in 1974. Mrs. Schweitzer worked as a secretary and bookkeeper and, later on in life, worked in downtown Seattle in the financial industry. In her senior years she loved gardening and working around the grounds of her apartment building, as well as interacting with the people there.
She is survived by son Steve, of San Diego, Calif., now a retired, 27 1/2-year U.S. Marine and Operation Iraqi Freedom veteran; grandson Joe, of McMinnville, Ore.; sister Patsy Monnin, of Russia, Ohio; as well as extended family (mostly in Portland) and numerous wonderful friends at Fountain Plaza Apartments in Seattle, where she was a resident for 33 1/2 years.
Donations may be made in her name to the American Cancer Society.
