Even with ones older than most grandparents, vintage cars can still take you for a ride you'll never forget.
Seeing them is like a nostalgic glimpse into the past: a piece of history beautifully maintained and perfected with every aesthetic detail. The elegant contours and polished chrome create a feast for the eyes.
Legacies in Motion, Madison Park's first vintage automobile show, will take place this Saturday, Sept. 8, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., on the end of East Madison Street at Lake Washington.
The street will close off to showcase vehicles from Mercedes, Ferrari, BMW and other manufacturers from the 1950s and early 1960s.
"It's an all-day, free car show," said Dennis Daugs, co-founder of Lakeside Capital Management and Madison Park resident who put the idea in motion. "Enjoy the cars, maybe some music. There will be lots of information about the history of the cars on display."
A SMALL, DIVERSE SHOWCASE
The Madison Park community is quite sophisticated but very low-key, according to Daugs. And the event is reflective of that; just eight cars will be showcased this year, giving visitors an opportunity to appreciate each car as an individual jewel, he said.
"Whenever I drive my car, people are always coming up and thanking me," Daugs said. "I thought about all of the many great cars in our neighborhood and [how] this would be a chance for the community to see them all."
Rounding up the participants to show their cars was actually pretty easy, Daugs said. The car collectors around the area form a community; using this network, Daugs was able to create a diverse lineup for Saturday's car show.
A COMMUNITY EVENT
Though Legacies in Motion is a free event, Daugs, Lakeside Capital Management, wanted the event to benefit the Madison Park neighborhood. Donations will be taken throughout the day to go to Historic Madison Park, a co-sponsor, for neighborhood improvements.
"This is just a small way for us to give back to the community," Daugs said. "My office off East Madison Street faces one of our parks that I know [the city] is working on improving."
A VIP preview will take place the morning of the event. This will feature a small breakfast event, which Daugs hopes will encourage donations for the parks.
"We'd like it to be an annual vintage-car show," Daugs said. "We're celebrating our great neighborhood and matching it up with some classic cars."[[In-content Ad]]
