Call for volunteers at BEST High School

Dear Community Member:

We would like to take this opportunity to invite you to participate in a new, rewarding volunteer program at BEST High School called, BEST for Kids.

As you may know, BEST (Better Education for Students and Teachers) is a choice school for students in grades 9-12 within the Lake Washington School District.

BEST focuses on each student's academic, personal and social development, teaching students skills essential for a rewarding, responsible life. Students take a variety of courses at BEST in order to demonstrate proficiency in each of the following areas: communication, quantitative and scientific reasoning, citizenship, culture and school-to-career and life skills. Students are also required to successfully complete a culminating project.

In order to provide the individual attention necessary for each of BEST's students, a strong volunteer force is essential. Volunteers at school provide a very special adult component that encourages students to focus on their work, to take their goals seriously and to be successful. Your support of our overall program by being a BEST for Kids volunteer will definitely make a difference in the lives of our students. Here are some examples of the many volunteer opportunities available to you (the days and times are flexible):
  • ndividual student tutoring: 12:40 - 2:15 p.m.
  • Individual student support in a writing lab: 12:40 to 2:15 p.m.
  • Classroom instructional support (reading, small group work): 8 a.m. - 2:15 p.m.
  • Library support: 8 a.m. - 2:15 p.m.
  • Morning CafĂ©: 8:30 - 10 a.m.
  • Guest speakers (in classrooms or all-school assembly): 8 a.m. - 2:15 p.m.
