Gifts for homeless women
Tahe Queen Anne United Methodist Church at 1606 5th Ave. W. now has a supply of gift giving tags to benefit the women of the Church of Mary Magdalene. This is a women’s shelter for homeless women and children that is open during the daytime. Tags can be found in the sanctuary tacked on a bulletin board against the west wall. The church only has two weeks to collect them as they must be returned to the church in time to process for Christmas. Some tags are marked with actual gifts that are requested and others for a donation to purchase a shoe voucher. For more information, call 282-4307.
Mobile mammograms
The YWCA-LBTQ Health and Swedish Breast Center will conduct a mobile mammogram screening Saturday, Dec. 10, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Wildrose, 1021 E. Pike St., in Seattle. The screenings are for people age 40 and over who are un- or under-insured and income eligible. You will receive a pap test, breast exam, mammogram and blood-pressure check. Crone holiday potluck
Come join the Crone of Puget Sound holiday potluck at noon on Saturday, Dec. 10, at the Queen Anne Lutheran Church, 2400 8th Ave. Please bring a wrapped and labeled grab bag item for the YWCA Angeline's Center holiday party which is part of the Homeless /women's Enhanced Night Program. Bring your special holiday dish to share. Also bring your own plate, cup and utensils (Crone will provide beverages). Suggestions for gifts for the homeless women’s program are: bus tickets, gloves, thick comfortable socks, warm hats, scarves, toiletry items, including feminine hygiene products, puzzle books and gift cards from such places as Bartell’s, Fred Meyer and Target).
Cub Scouts helping the homeless
Cub scouts of Pack 80 in Magnolia are celebrating the holidays on December 12th at 7:00 at Magnolia United Church of Christ, 3555 W. McGraw St. in Seattle. We invite you to join the scouts and their families for songs, treats and a short program about the pack’s annual holiday service project, a gift drive for homeless youth served by Friends of Youth (FoY). Pack 80’s holiday gifts are being provided for young adults aged 18-24 utilizing The Landing, the only overnight shelter serving this demographic on the East side. The 83 cub scouts pack will be fulfilling requests for items such as warm clothing, hygiene items and gift cards. For more information call 206 283-7346.

Free job-training classes
From December 12-16, Goodwill’s Job Training and Education Center in Seattle, located at 1400 S. Lane St., will register people from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. for free classes. The eight-week session runs from Jan. 3 through Feb. 23, 2012.
