MIDNIGHT MARCH FOR METRO

The Magnolia Transit Riders and the Transit Riders Union on a Midnight March for Metro on Saturday, April 6, to protest cutbacks on late-evening bus service after 10:20 p.m. The rally will begin at 11 p.m. at the foot of the Magnolia Bridge near Staples (1541 15th Ave. W.) They will then march to the Magnolia Village Pub (3221 W. McGraw St.), starting at 11:30 p.m. Elected officials have been invited to attend; the public is welcome. SEATTLE PUBLIC SCHOOLS’ STRATEGIC PLAN MEETING

Seattle Public Schools will have a community meeting on Monday, April 8, from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. to take comments on its update of the district’s Strategic Plan, which will guide the academic and operational policies for the next three to five years. The community meeting will take place in the Ballard High School commons (1418 N.W. 65th St.) Spanish and Somali interpreters will be available.

 

MAGNOLIA-QUEEN ANNE DISTRICT COUNCIL

The District Council, which meets to discuss local issues and community building, will meet on Monday, April 8 (second Monday of each month, from 7 to 9 p.m.). The April meeting will take place at the Magnolia Community Center (2550 34th Ave. W.); the May 13 meeting will take place at Bayview Manor (11 W. Aloha St.). The public is welcome. HELP ASSESS STAIRS IN QUEEN ANNE 

Sustainable Queen Anne’s primary focus in 2013 is helping with the Queen Anne Greenway Project. The first big event is an evening assessment of the public stairs in Queen Anne on Tuesday, April 9, which will determine which areas are not adequately lit, as well as areas in disrepair or in overgrown condition. The Queen Anne Greenways Stairway Audit Walk will use the results to present the neighborhood’s needs to the Seattle Department of Transportation. OPEN HOUSE ON THE IMPACT OF I-502, LEGALIZATION OF MARIJUANA

As part of its ongoing drug education campaign, the Church of Scientology is hosting an Open House on Wednesday, April 10th at 300 W. Harrison St. Steve Freng, Manager, Prevention/Treatment with the Northwest High Intensity Drug Trafficking Area (NW HIDTA) will be addressing recent drug trends in Washington as well as the impacts of I-502, the measure which legalized the production, possession, delivery and distribution of marijuana in Washington State. Free audiovisual materials will be available on marijuana and other drugs at this open house. Reception and refreshments at 6 pm; program starts at 6:30. BONE-MARROW REGISTRATION DRIVE

The Seattle Pacific University Biology Club is hosting a bone-marrow registration drive on April 12, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. to register potential donors. PUBLIC MEETING ON SEATTLE CENTER’S REVISED RULES

The Seattle Center will have a public meeting on April 22, from 5:30 to 7 p.m., on its proposed revised Campus Rules and the Seattle Center Armory Rules (both available at www.seattlecenter.com). The meeting will take place in the Seattle Center Armory (305 Harrison St.), in the third-floor Conference Room H.
