Are you interested in needlework,

beading, knitting and other forms of fiber arts? Pacific Northwest Needle Arts Guild was organized more than 35 years ago for the purpose of educating and encouraging the pursuit of knowledge in the needle arts. There are numerous groups within our guild who meet regularly to learn new techniques. During the year we have workshops and classes. Members' creations are exhibited in a fiber arts show each year. Washington Butterfly Association

has its free lecture - 7 to 9 p.m., Sept. 2, "Sniffing out Kincaid's Lupine by David Vesely and his dog Rogue" David G. Vesely, wildlife ecologist and executive director of the Oregon Wildlife Institute in Corvallis, and his dog Rogue, a 4-year-old Belgian sheepdog, will present this fascinating program as a team. The dog has been trained to find Kincaid's lupine, a rare (threatened) native plant closely associated with the Fender's Blue (endangered) butterfly, which uses the plant as a place to lay its eggs and later as a food source. With grants from the Disney Foundation and the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, David has trained five Belgian sheepdogs to sniff out specific plants in this critical research.

Family fun nights

Come have fun at the Family Fun Nights at the Queen Anne Community Center. Fun Nights reconvene Sept. 4, with a back-to-school family night and barbecue - 5 p.m. at the community center at 1901 First Ave. W. Fun Nights for the rest of the year will be Sept. 8, 25; Oct. 2, 9, 16, 30; Nov. 6, 13, 20 ; and Dec. 4, 11, 18. Did you graduate QAHS in 1964?

Come to the 45th class reunion that will coincide with the QAHS Annual Alumni Picnic 11 a.m. to 5 p.m., Sunday, Aug. 23 on the picnic grounds of the new John Hay School across the street from QAHS at 201 Garfield St. The alumni association will provide hot dogs, pop and coffee. Ninth Annual Uptown Stroll

is seeking artists to participate 10 a.m., to 5 p.m., Saturday Aug. 29, for this Art in Action event. Artists are expected to be in the process of producing artwork during the day. There is no charge to participate and artists are encouraged to have their art available for sale. Artists will enter in one of two divisions: Youth (age 6-17) and Adult (18 and upward).
