At the conclusion of the 2007 Seattle International Film Festival on Sunday, the organizers declared it a success. SIFF is projecting a 6 percent increase in overall box-office sales this year.
The Golden Space Needle for best film went to local filmmaker John Jeffcoat for "Outsourced." More than 700,000 audience votes were cast for the Golden Space Needles this year, which also included awards for best documentary ("For the Bible Tells Me So"), best director (Daniel Waters), best female actor (Marion Cotillard), best actor (Daniel Bruhl), and best short film ("Pierre").
Best news of all for SIFF fans is that the festival now has a permanent home theater at the Seattle Center, and will continue to organize "mini-festivals" throughout the year at this site.
For this summer, there will be a Kubrick retrospective and a film noir double feature program.
So, until 2008, it's not really goodbye to SIFF; it's "I'll be seeing you at the movies!"
