The centerpiece of the Seattle Center’s “The Next Fifty,” a series of events marking the 50th anniversary of the Seattle World’s Fair, is expected to draw more than 30,000 on Saturday, Sept. 8, 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.
Activities are geared for people of all ages.
Among the happenings: Free admission to EMP for ages 16 and under; two free Space Needle admission vouchers for ages 12 and under for every paid adult; a wall of Jell-O; SIFF’s red carpet “It Happened at the World’s Fair” screening; photo opportunities with local sports and entertainment personages; skate board demonstrations and clinic; vintage car show; food trucks, Century Ballroom outdoors and roaming entertainment.
Arts and cultural organizations residing on the Seattle Center campus will offer a showcase of their upcoming seasons. The Century 21 Exhibit at International Fountain Pavilion will be open, and Pottery Northwest will offer an open house with clay activities for the young, demonstrations and a giant clay birthday cake. In addition, Teatro ZinZanni will hold an open house with backstage tours every half-hour, along with stations where people can try their hand at circus skills, plus a boutique and bar.
An eclectic musical line-up will be spread across four stages: the Mural Amphitheatre stage; Fisher Pavilion stage; Key Arena Steps stage and the Next 50 Plaza stage.
Musical acts range from the Utopian Latin Band to Buckets of Rain to the Gravity Kings.
