Betty Eather, 81, had passion for helping others

Longtime Magnolia resident Elizabeth "Betty" Eather passed away April 3 from cancer. She was 81.

Mrs. Eather was born June 24, 1925, in Wyncote, Pa., to Edward and Gretta Worthington. She attended the University of Pennsylvania, where she completed dental hygienist training and was a member of the Alpha Chi Omega sorority. While in college she met her husband, Kenneth F. Eather, who was completing medical school.

Mrs. Eather and her husband moved to Seattle during the early 1950s, where Ken worked as Chief of Anesthesiology at Children's Hospital. A devoted wife and mother of four children, Mrs. Eather had several passions in life, especially gardening, animals, being around children and helping those in need. She was a long-time member of the Children's Hospital Guild and Magnolia Presbyterian Church, where she served as an elder and deacon.

Over recent years she enjoyed volunteering at the Adult Day Center in Magnolia, where she provided care for individuals with age-related dementia. Mrs. Eather was not reluctant to express her opinions and feelings, especially on behalf of those she felt needed advocacy. At the same time, she was known for her sense of humor, quick wit and self-effacing manner. She really enjoyed being with friends and family, working in her garden, listening to music and watching Mariner and Sonic games with her husband Ken.

Mrs. Eather is survived by her husband, Ken; daughter, Kathy of Darrington; son, Bruce of Tacoma; and son, Paul of Bend, Ore.; sisters Dorothy and Nancy; as well as five grandchildren, Ashton, Blair, Taylor, Hannah and Chance. She is preceded in death by her daughter, Julie.

She will be missed by all.

Memorial services will be held at the Magnolia Presbyterian Church on Saturday, April 21, at 1 p.m., followed by a reception to celebrate her life. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Bridge Ministries in Kirkland.[[In-content Ad]]
