Banking on Old Hay, SBOC

HomeStreet Bank has made a $500 contribution to the Friends of Old John Hay's second annual Chess Festival and Summer Party on June 16. The event will take place at the "Old Hay" school site, now home to the Secondary Bilingual Orientation Center (SBOC), and will hold simultaneous chess games for all ages and levels with local Chess Master Dr. Leo Stefurak.

There will also be artwork and dance performed by SBOC students, multi-cultural handicrafts for sale and refreshments.

HomeStreet has been involved with SBOC and the Friends of Old John Hay since 2004 and has contributed a total of $5,000 to the FOH. Queen Anne branch manager Hossein Soley-mani serves on the FOH steering committee. The Queen Anne branch also hosts the ongoing sale of greeting cards featuring SBOC students' original artwork, every Tuesday and Thursday through June in front of the branch; students receive selling tips and help with their English skills from branch staff while selling the cards.
