Senior Josh Baba, wrestling in the 145 division, was the only Kingco wrestler to take the first place title and going to states undefeated.
Last year he suffered a shattered jaw, putting an early end to his season. According to assistant athletic director Andrea Snyder, "It's nice he's doing so well. He's a nice, nice kid."
Snyder said five wrestlers went to Tacoma to participate in the state finals on Feb. 16. In the first round, Baba pinned his opponent at 45 seconds.
Unfortunately, he was pinned in the quarterfinals. Baba was 35-0 before that match and went 26-0 as a junior.
Nathan St. Martin, wrestling at 189, lost in the first round.

Snyder said the squad has qualified for the WIAA state cheer competition in Yakima on March 22. They will be competing in the medium varsity category.

Because of the tournament play, win or lose, the Kangs did advance. They played two days later, Feb. 17, as the tournament continued at Juanita High School. They played an even game against Redmond High School, securing 13 points in each of the four quarters.
