At Magnolia United Church of Christ: A provocative movie for parents of school-aged kids plus David Harrison's paintings

“The Race to Nowhere,” is a documentary depicting the stories of stressed young people across the country; educators who are burned out and worried that students aren’t developing the skills they need and parents who are trying to do what’s best for their kids. Magnolia United Church of Christ will feature a free showing of the film on Sept. 21 at 7 p.m.

On Sunday, Sept. 9, 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. the church will hold an artist’s reception for Magnolia resident David Harrison, whose radiant oil paintings of local landscapes, especially madrona trees, are well known in the neighborhood. Harrison’s paintings will be on display at the church through Oct. 26.

Magnolia United Church of Christ is at 3555 W. McGraw St. Info: www.magnoliaucc.org
