As we enter the landslide season in Seattle, homeowners need to get information on how to protect their property and families from dangerous landslides.
Seattle is inviting the public to a free landslide meeting being held from 10 a.m. to noon, on Saturday, Nov. 12, at the Judge Warren & Nobie Chan Education Center at South Seattle Community College, 6000 16 Avenue S.W. in South Seattle.
The 2011 City of Seattle Landslide Awareness Meeting will be run by the city’s Department of Planning and Development and will include experts from the American Society for Civil Engineers, geologists and plant experts. Homeowners will get information on the causes of landslides, as well as how to preserve slopes with proper drainage and vegetation.
Landslides are virtually an annual occurrence in Seattle, with many neighborhoods near the coast or along slopes vulnerable to such slides.
