7-Eleven property sold to developer

The signs are gone, the front has been covered in plywood that was quickly defaced by graffiti vandals, and there's a huge hole where the parking lot used to be at the Magnolia 7-Eleven store on West Dravus Street.

The property near the QFC has been sold, said owner and Queen Anne High School graduate Bud Cheney. "We're remediating the soil so we can sell it," he said of a condition of the sale.

That's necessary because a huge volume of dirt was contaminated by gasoline when the location was the home of a family-owned Shell station until 1976, Cheney said.

"My grandfather built the gas station in 1925," he said. "That house that (State Farm Insurance agent) Chuck Dagg has his office in was our house," Cheney added.

The large gas-storage tanks were removed some time ago, but the pipes leading from the storage tanks to the pumps still needed to be removed, he added. "Yeah, it's been a tremendous hassle, said Cheney, who also noted that the fix has been very expensive.

Cheney declined to speak about plans the developer has for the property, and he also wouldn't reveal the name of the developer because both restrictions are conditions of the sale.[[In-content Ad]]
