The Assistance League of Seattle (ALS) will award scholarships to 50 Whitman Middle School students during a celebration on May 16 at 2:30 p.m. in the school library (3201 15th Ave. W.).
The Enrichment Scholarship Program, which has awarded summer-experience scholarships for the last five years, will give a total of $37,200 to 85 students from 17 Seattle public schools. The maximum award given is $500 toward a summer program of the student’s choice.
The program has grown from eight applications to a record 91 this year. Each applicant was required to submit an essay.
Because of Whitman’s participation in this year’s scholarship program, ALS is giving each Whitman recipient a Certificate of Award.
Funds are raised through volunteer activities and the ALS’ Thrift Shop in Wallingford.
